Marcel MOULY lithographs

In the 1950s, Marcel Mouly was one of those figurative artists who tried to find their own path, drawing on the contributions of Picasso's analytical cubism, Messagier's abstract landscapes, and Bram Van Velde's bold brushstrokes. He succeeded in rethinking space and color, somewhere between Braque's still lifes and Matisse's Mediterranean landscapes, creating a colorful and joyful painting that was also profound and humane. However, he was still just one good painter among others. "Discovered" by Opera Gallery and given an exclusive lithography contract with Park West Gallery, suddenly Marcel Mouly was everywhere. He became the new reference, the new darling! Knowing how to carefully distill his work without disappointing those who had fallen in love with his happy landscapes, his prices soared over the years. He regularly became the only living artist to have each of his works sold at auction. He passed away on the night of January 6-7, 2008, just as he was about to turn 90 years old, leaving his works to soar even higher under the hammers of auctioneers.
