Main works

Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec, Polonius, Nestor Burma, It was the War of the Trenches, The Cry of the People.

Artistic movements

Engaged comic book artist, like a journalist of the comic world!

Inspiration, influence

After a traditional training (Fine Arts and Decorative Arts), he turned towards comics where his first real crush was Edgar P. Jacobs.

His contemporaries

Jacques Tardi began his career with Pierre Christin (who bridged the gap between the Mézières generation and the one that followed). He later collaborated frequently with historians (for his work on World War I) or writers (such as Pennac and Grange).

To keep in mind

Recognized and celebrated, Tardi has elevated comic books to the level of manifesto in recent years.

To go further

Jacques Tardi notably refused the Legion of Honor in 2013, not wanting "to receive anything, neither from the current government nor from any other political power."
