Based on the photo, revealing it through scratching, adding, and distorting, Tony Soulié offers us visions of America (but not only) where saturated colors collide with landscapes, mostly urban, resulting from human will. In these images, Soulié seeks the symbol, the perfect orientation of a bridge, a building to present it to us in a way that we can both recognize and identify it, while also discovering it for the first time.
Tony Soulié, born in Paris in 1955, is a multifaceted artist who embarked early on the path of artistic expression in all its forms. Having studied Fine Arts and Applied Arts, he exhibited in Switzerland as early as his twenty-second year. These "encounters" with the public have been numerous for this passionate globetrotter, with no less than 200 exhibitions punctuating his last thirty years of work.
Working with photography alongside painting since the beginning, he has blended different techniques over the course of his personal evolution to remain true to his artistic demands. From gigantic canvases where glues, resins, and various materials are added to oil and acrylic, to serigraphs with cardboard collages, and lithographs where resin and paint enrich the inks, Soulié strives to find yet unexplored paths to capture his view of the surrounding world.
But in recent years, this tireless traveler has also sought to challenge his own boundaries by adopting an approach where it is no longer the external world entering the studio, but the studio settling in places like volcanic slopes (Etna, Hawaii, Pompeii), Mount Olympus, or even vineyard hillsides, which fascinate the painter. By making this move, bringing his art to the heart of the world, Soulié aims to create new connections between reality and its expression.
